Self-Study Modules Developed For Grief Care Education Benefits Training The Edmonton Commandery has a strong relationship with the Capital Health Regional Palliative Care Program. All trained volunteers in the program proudly denote their status by wearing a pin that incorporates the green Maltese cross of St. Lazarus in recognition of funding support for the training program provided by the Edmonton Commandery. Family caregivers are an integral part of palliative care and their needs after the death of their loved one must also be served. With the support of the Order, the Regional Palliative Care Program is currently developing self-study modules in grief care education. In consultation with the region’s palliative care community, the program concluded that grief care education for professionals was an essential part of required ongoing training. Professionals trained in grief care are better able to support the patients and families with whom they work. This training looks at a variety of topics that build upon the professional’s knowledge and experience in various aspects of grief including cultural awareness, spirituality and the grief of children and teens. Corresponding self-study modules will be developed. With these modules supported by the donations from the Edmonton Commandery, it will be feasible to train all professionals regardless of their location or circumstances so that they can effectively assist grieving caregivers. » Back To Top |
