Local Fundraising Helps Purchase Equipment For South American Hospital The Acadia Commandery recently made a $1,000 donation to the Palliative Care Unit of the Prince County Hospital, Prince Edward Island. The contribution will help purchase of a Voyager Ceiling Lift. The Commandery made a further donation to the Hospitaller Sisters of Saint Joseph in support of their Leprosy Mission in Peru. The $1,000 was presented to Sister Anonciade, RHSJ, former director of the San Pablo Leprosarium, by Vice Commander Bernard Poirier, CM at the Provincial Headquarters in Bathurst, New Brunswick. The donation was made as a contribution towards the purchase of X-ray / echograph equipment for the San Pablo Main Hospital. Founded in 1636 in La Fleche, France, The Congregation of the Hospitaller Sisters of Saint Joseph has been actively involved in the care of lepers in Canada and Peru for over a century. Between 1982 and 1995, the Acadia Commandery made a series of donations in support of the Leprosarium of the Sisters of Saint Joseph in San Pablo near Iquitos, Peru. These funds were used to buy a variety of greatly needed items, including essential drugs, food, boots, clothing, garden tools, seeds for planting, and even a fishing boat. » Back To Top |
