Little Flower

Little Flower was founded in the village of Sundepur over two decades ago.
Today, there are 20 Little Flower leprosy colonies.

Aims and Objectives of Little Flower

To provide treatment free of charge to any one afflicted with leprosy regardless
of caste, creed or colour and undertaking, a programme of healing and care.

Leprosy causes a five-fold wound to the person afflicted; physical, social, psychological, financial and spiritual. If there are five-fold wounds, thenshould be a five-fold healing.

Little Flower is focussed on five-fold healing. The dislocated and derailed are put back into the main stream of society through planned rehabilitation. It provides proper housing; clean drinking water together with job opportunities, which would generate sufficient income "to stand on their own feet even if they have not feet".

The Impact of Little Flower Projects

| • |
The incidence of leprosy patients being sent away from their families and villages has diminished drastically and the social stigma is fast fading away from this part of the world. |
 |
| • |
With effective hospital management and timely treatment, the percentage of deformity, disability and disfigurement have immensely reduced, and is confined
to the elderly persons. |
 |
| • |
Ability of the Disabled: Little Flower has effectively disproved the wrong notion
that once you contract the disease you become good for nothing. The wheat, rice, vegetables and sugar cane produced in the agricultural farm, the milk produced in the diary farm, the excellent quality of silk they spin and weave in the Little Flower Khadi Project, and the numerous construction projects, are all testimonials that speak aloud the ability of the disabled. |
 |
| • |
Empowerment of the Powerless: In this part of the world the leprosy patients
and the independents were once tortured and abused. But gone are those days
of horrific incidents. Today, a strong solidarity has been built among the people
of Little Flower. |
 |
| • |
The healthy younger generation is becoming literate. The sons and daughters
of the patients can now enter the main stream of society with a bright future. |
 |
| • |
In the foreseeable future, the Little Flower colonies will cease to be leprosy colonies. |
