Raising Funds To Support Those In Need Our "Raison d'etre"

The Ottawa Commandery is dedicated to supporting two charitable organizations; palliative care units, plus hospitals and organizations engaged in the treatment of leprosy.

On average, the Ottawa raises $10,000 to $15,000 annually to support palliative care in the National Capital Region (Ottawa-Gatineau). The funds are shared among a number of organizations including: the Ottawa Mission Hospice, the Perley and Rideau Veteran's Health Care Centre Foundation, Friends of Hospice (formerly the Sylvia House Hospice) and the Hospice at Maycourt. We also make donations to several needy day hospice groups. Our annual donation towards the treatment of leprosy is $2,000 per year.

To assist with fundraising efforts, the Ottawa Commandery organizes a number of functions throughout the year to raise money through participation and direct donations.

This year we organized a Winter Dinner Theatre evening, which raised a respectable number of donations. In June of 2006, we will hold an afternoon Wine & Cheese function at the residence of the Speaker of the House of Commons. With an opportunity to see the historic residence and spend an afternoon with the Speaker, the event is certain to be well attended.

We're proud to say that the "raison d'etre" and only ongoing project of the Ottawa Commandery is to raise funds for charity, and help those in need.
