Special Events Provide Funds For Construction Of Palliative Care Hospice In 2005, the Toronto Commandery enjoyed another busy season of good works while building ties within the community and the Order. With a growing membership and an increasingly professional focus on the issues surrounding palliative care, the Toronto Commandery is increasing its presence in the Greater Toronto Area. In the past we have concentrated on fundraising alone. In the future, it will be a key driver of our success as we look to the creation our own palliative care hospice. This exciting project will allow the Order of Saint Lazarus to significantly improve the conditions of many, while highlighting the importance of the Order within the community. The Toronto Commandery is fully committed to assisting the community to understand and accept end-of-life care as a meaningful component of the human experience. Equally important, we want to ensure that all persons and their families have access to end-of-life support services within their community. To this end, we have supported nearly 30 palliative care initiatives, including the Paediatric Oncology Group of Ontario. We continue to raise funds through such highly visible events as the Emerald Ball and the annual Polo Chukker - this year's event will be held September 17, 2006. To heighten awareness, we promote Commandery initiatives on numerous websites: www.emeraldchukker.org www.torontocommanderyfoundation.org www.emeraldchukker.org/toronto/index.htm The Toronto Commandery is increasingly focussed on corporate and individual donations and the creation of partnerships for initiatives in palliative care. » Back To Top |
