The Order of Saint Lazarus in Canada: Financial Report

In Canada, the Order of St. Lazarus is registered as a public foundation for income tax purposes. As such, the Order is able to issue charitable receipts for contributions received. Additionally, the Order is required to spend a minimum amount each year on charitable activities, either carrying out our own charitable work or contributing funds to other charitable organizations.

Over the past 10 years, the Order of St. Lazarus in Canada – the National office and commanderies combined – contributed approximately $2,700,000 on charitable activities.




The Order's Primary Charitable Activities Included:

Ecumenical Bursaries: The Order donates approximately $20,000 each year to establish bursaries in theological colleges across Canada, to assist students enrolled in ecumenical programs.
Creating, publishing and distributing “A Caregiver’s Guide” to assist individuals who provide home care to the elderly. The cost of this publication to date is approximately $200,000.
Financial assistance for two leprosy hospices, and research to help eradicate leprosy. The Order's annual expenditure is approximately $40,000.
Financial support for hospices and palliative care facilities across Canada.
